NFL Draft results: Dion Jordan could play on Dolphins special teams

The No. 3 pick of the 2013 NFL Draft might find his way onto the Miami Dolphins special teams unit in addition to their defense.

USA TODAY Sports

New Miami Dolphins defensive end and No. 3 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Dion Jordan, might play more than just defense in Miami. Head coach Joe Philbin hasn't ruled out the idea of Jordan serving as a member of the special teams unit, noting how much their new first round draft pick loves to play football.

"He (Jordan) is willing to make a contribution any way he could. We'll see; certainly I wouldn't rule anything out with him in terms of his contribution on special teams," Philbin said on Saturday. Jordan has the size and athleticism to be a force on special teams and could be particularly effective at blocking kicks.

The Dolphins will likely want to find as many ways as possible to utilize Jordan who is 6’6 and ran a 4.60 second 40-yard dash, but will also take care not to overuse him as he will be an important part of their defense going forward. Miami traded the No. 12 and No. 42 pick to the Raiders in order to move up and select Jordan.
