The experiment in New York was brief. The Denver Broncos traded Tebow to the Jets just over a year ago. He played in 12 games last season and finished with 32 carries, eight pass attempts and yet another media frenzy following his every move. Looking ahead, what's next for the football icon?
Tebow is never going to become a full-time starter, at least at quarterback, in the NFL. It’s just not in the cards at this point. He helped fuel the Broncos to the playoffs and even capture a postseason win in 2011. That run, though, is an outlier, not the norm. His potential in signing with another team is limited.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are always in the discussion when it comes to Tebow. Once a likely landing spot, Jacksonville seems out of the question based on the comments made by general manager David Caldwell. "I can't imagine a scenario where Tim Tebow would be a Jacksonville Jaguar," Caldwell said back in January. "Even if he's released."
So, the Jaguars don’t want him. The Jets don’t want him. Who’s left? Are there any teams willing to give him a shot?
Signing Tebow brings unwanted attention to any franchise. No matter where he goes, major media outlets will promote every single move he makes and continue to question his role. There is almost no market for Tebow in the NFL.
Should he try his chances in the Arena Football League? The Orlando Predators would love to have him under center. “Whenever Tim is willing, we have a contract waiting for him to sign,” said Predators owner Brett Bouchy. If Tebow truly wants to start at quarterback, this might be his only substantial option.
Could he change positions? Jason La Canfora says he's willing to make that switch. Becoming a tight end, fullback or H-back would possibly give him a few more options at the pro level. Former Penn State quarterback Michael Robinson successfully progressed into a fullback. It's not out of the question.
Tebow might be done in the NFL. He’s not worth the media circus that will surely follow him, and any interest from other teams simply isn’t there. Tebow Time could be over for good.
