Tim Tebow release: ‘Things did not work out the way we all had hoped’

Rex Ryan was quick to comment on the release of Tim Tebow early Monday morning.

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan apparently never thought much of Tim Tebow judging by his game plan last season, but he still holds his now former quarterback in high regard. Ryan commented on the 25-year-old quarterback's situation shortly after the Jets released him early Monday morning.

"Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped."-Rex Ryan

“We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow,” Ryan said in a statement released by the team. “Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward.”

Tebow always showed up early and stayed late at practice, working hard to improve as a quarterback in the NFL. It simply didn’t work out. Ryan didn’t use Tebow often in his only season with the Jets. However, he always acknowledged his work ethic and dedication.

The Jets drafted Geno Smith in the 2013 NFL Draft, adding a sixth passer to the roster. Tebow's run with New York was bound to end soon. He'll see if there are any other options for him left in the NFL now.
