Detroit Lions likely to add offensive line help

Now that the 2013 NFL Draft is over, the Lions are still looking to address a few needs on the roster. Which players might they be targeting?

Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

After drafting guard Larry Warford to help bolster the interior of the offensive line, the Detroit Lions will now focus on adding depth at tackle. With little experience at the position, Detroit will be looking at bringing in a veteran free agent, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

Birkett notes that current offensive tackles Riley Reiff, Corey Hilliard and Jason Fox have a combined six starts between them. The Lions intend to provide more depth in protection for Matthew Stafford prior to start of the upcoming season.

Who’s available at this point?

Tyson Clabo and Eric Winston are the top two tackles remaining in free agency. Clabo would be the more likely candidate for Detroit, as Winston is better suited for a zone blocking scheme. Both players are veterans, though, with great track records. Bryant McKinnie has been in the speculation surrounding the Lions. He's 34, but was still effective moving around on the line during the Baltimore Ravens' Super Bowl run.

The Lions still have enough cap room to make a move with one of these tackles. After filling several needs in the draft, Detroit can focus on depth now.
