Minnesota Vikings sign CB Jacob Lacey

The Minnesota Vikings signed cornerback Jacob Lacey and defensive end Lawrence Jackson on Monday.

USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Vikings announced the signing of cornerback Jacob Lacey on Monday, as noted by Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun. Lacey was one of the better cornerbacks available on the open market.

Additionally, the team announced the signing of defensive end Lawrence Jackson at the same time.

Lacey was undrafted out of Oklahoma State in 2009, but he made the Indianapolis Colts' roster and actually played in every game during his rookie season. He spent the 2012 season with the Detroit Lions and has six interceptions and 25 passes defended for his career.

He received interest from the Oakland Raiders this offseason, as well. The Lions also wanted to bring Lacey back as well, given their relatively weak secondary.

Jackson also spent last season with the Lions. He was a first-round draft pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2008 and played with them for two seasons before the past three with Detroit. He has 19.5 sacks in 69 NFL games.

It’s no surprise that both players were snatched up so quickly following the draft. Teams now know where they stand with their roster and can properly assign value to the remaining free agents on the market. If any players still out there are going to be on a team next season, smart money is on them getting signed sooner rather than later.
