The New England Patriots appear to be the favorites to sign free agent defensive end John Abraham, according to Mike Loyko of NEPatriotsDraft.com.
NFL free agent tracker: John Abraham ‘likely’ to sign with Patriots
New England could be on the verge of adding a proven veteran to its defensive line.

Jared Stegall at Pats Pulpit makes the point that Abraham would be a veteran addition to a youthful defensive line.
If the news about a forthcoming Abraham deal is true, then the Patriots will be adding a strong veteran presence to a relatively young group of pass rushers. This group includes Chandler Jones, Rob Ninkovich, Jamie Collins, Justin Francis, Jermaine Cunningham, Jake Bequette, Michael Buchanan, Marcus Benard and Jason Vega.
Abraham, entering his 14th year in the NFL, played the last seven seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. In 2012, he appeared in all 16 regular-season games, compiling 35 tackles, 10 sacks and five tackles for loss. Over the course of his career, Abraham has 508 tackles, 122 sacks and 44 tackles for loss.
At 34, Abraham is likely nearing the end of his time as a professional football player. Nevertheless, he has been a model of consistency in recent years, playing in 94 out of 96 regular-season games since 2007.
