Adam Snyder released by Cardinals

A year after he was a prized free agent addition, Adam Snyder was released by the Cardinals on Monday.

USA TODAY Sports

After a rough first season in Arizona, the Cardinals released guard Adam Snyder on Monday, according to Kent Somers of AZCentral Sports.

Snyder played both right guard and center last season, starting 14 games. His release comes just over a year after he signed a five-year deal worth $17.5 million including $5 million guaranteed. The release shouldn’t impact Arizona’s salary cap as Snyder was scheduled to count $4 million against the 2013 salary cap, but will now count as $4 million in dead money, according to Spotrac. Including his signing bonus and 2012 salary, Snyder made $6 million during his lone season as a Cardinal.

The move comes after Arizona added two guards in the NFL Draft. The Cardinals used the No. 7 pick on North Carolina guard Jonathan Cooper while adding guard Earl Watford in the fourth round. Daryn Colledge started 16 games at left guard last season, but he could potentially shift to right guard with Cooper taking over at left guard.

Snyder wasn’t the only guard to be released by Arizona on Monday as Jeremiah Warren was also released.
