Following the news Monday that NBA veteran forward Jason Collins is gay, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace tweeted out some insensitive remarks about homosexuality, though he deleted the tweet not long after and issued an apology.
Dolphins release statement on Mike Wallace tweet
Miami addressed the unfortunate comments Wallace made on Twitter about homosexuality.

The Dolphins responded later with a statement on the matter, noting that they plan to address the team so that an incident like this does not happen in the future.
“Mike Wallace has apologized for his comments, and we have addressed the matter with him. Mike’s comments do not reflect the views of the Miami Dolphins. We believe in a culture of inclusiveness and respect, and any statements to the contrary are in no way acceptable to our organization. We will address the entire team about our policy of inclusion and make sure they all understand the importance of respecting individual choices.”
Wallace’s tweet read in part, “All these beautiful women in the world and guys wanna mess with other guys SMH…” -- but Collins’ peers also voiced plenty of support on Twitter after the news broke. The likes of Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and Baron Davis all offered encouraging words to Collins, as did NBA commissioner David Stern and Washington Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld.
