NFL Draft 2013: Lane Johnson draws Miami Dolphins’ interest

Miami is revamping the offense and could continue the project by drafting an offensive tackle.

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly showing interest in Oklahoma Sooners left tackle Lane Johnson, according to Ben Volin.

Miami has the No. 12 overall pick and remains a bit of a mystery at that spot. Most believed earlier in the offseason that the Dolphins would be a sure-fire candidate to take a wide receiver, but with the re-signing of Brian Hartline and the acquisition of Mike Wallace, Miami appears set there.

One other option on the offensive side could be a tight end, although drafting one at the 12th overall spot might be somewhat of a reach. The Dolphins could use help at cornerback, but general manager Jeff Ireland seems hellbent on getting the offense squared away.

However, it would be somewhat curious if Miami decided on a left tackle after letting Jake Long walk away. The only reasonable explanation would be the Dolphins feel Long has serious medical questions and don't want to invest the long-term money in him that the St. Louis Rams did.

If selected by Miami, Johnson would immediately come in and play in Long’s old spot, replacing the former No. 1 overall pick of 2008 out of the University of Michigan.

The Dolphins have placed quite a premium on the offensive line in recent years, also drafting center Mike Pouncey in the first round two years ago.
