Former Raiders coach Randy Hanson found guilty of battery

Randy Hanson, a former Oakland Raiders coach, has been found guilty of felony battery after an altercation in which he allegedly stuck another man in the face with a beer bottle.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Former Oakland Raiders defensive coach Randy Hanson was found guilty of felony battery on Monday, according to Cynthia Lambert of the San Luis Obispo Tribune. Hanson, who was with the Raiders from 2007-09 as an assistant defensive coach, could face up to four years in state prison for the charge.

The charge is for striking another man in the face with a beer bottle last year at Pismo Beach. Hanson was also found guilty of misdemeanor assault for the attack on James Kelsey, who suffered a broken nose and concussion in the incident.

Hanson’s attorney is going to try and reduce the felony charge to a misdemeanor, but that won’t happen until sentencing in June.

NFL fans might remember Hanson not specifically for his coaching, but rather for an incident in 2009 when he was involved in an altercation with then-head coach Tom Cable, who allegedly broke Hanson’s jaw an cracked two of his teeth. Hanson was placed on paid administrative leave after that altercation, though no charges were filed against Cable.
