Packers reportedly ask too much for Desmond Bishop

The Packers are willing to trade Desmond Bishop, but they’ll have to accept a little less in return.

Joe Robbins

The Green Bay Packers have put linebacker Desmond Bishop on the trading block, but they haven't been able to generate serious discussions, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. The Packers seem to be asking too much in return for Bishop.

Bishop led the Packers with 115 tackles in 2011, and he added five sacks, five tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a pass breakup. However, a hamstring injury suffered in the preseason cause him to miss the entire 2012 season. Bishop's backup, D.J. Smith, missed 10 games with an ACL injury, which led to increased snaps for Brad Jones and Robert Francois. Green Bay cut Smith after the season and re-signed Jones and Francois to three- and one-year deals, respectively.

In addition to Jones and Francois, the Packers have A.J. Hawk and Terrell Manning at inside linebacker, and they just took Nate Palmer and Sam Barrington in the NFL Draft.

Jones and Francois filled in admirably last season, combining for 90 tackles, four tackles for loss, four pass breakups, two sacks and one forced fumble.
