The New England Patriots terminated the contract of guard Brian Waters on Tuesday. Waters joined the Patriots in 2011, but spent the entire 2012 season on the reserve/did not report list after electing to stay at home with his family rather than report to the team.

After spending the entire 2012 season away from the team, the New England Patriots officially parted ways offensive lineman Brian Waters on Tuesday.

Waters spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs before joining the Patriots in 2011 with the hope of winning a Super Bowl. Starting off as an undrafted free-agent tight end and defensive end out of North Texas in 1999, Waters found his way onto the Chiefs roster in 2000 and became a mainstay of their offensive line. Waters was selected to six Pro Bowls in his career, five with the Chiefs and one with the Patriots in 2011.
Last season, when Waters didn't report to the Patriots he said he wanted to play for a team closer to his Texas home, but the Patriots placed him on the did not report list to ensure he didn't land on a team like the Texans. With Waters out of the lineup, New England moved Dan Connolly to guard and inserted Ryan Wendell as the starting center; both men played well in their new roles. Now a year removed from the game and 36 years old, it is unknown if Waters will try to find his way onto another NFL roster.
