NFL news tracker: Antoine Winfield to visit Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks aren’t done in free agency just yet. They will host veteran cornerback Antoine Winfield soon. What else made headlines around the league Sunday?

After adding notable names like Percy Harvin, Cliff Avril, and Michael Bennett last month, the Seattle Seahawks are still looking to stay active in free agency. Veteran cornerback Antoine Winfield will visit the team this week, according to Kareem Copeland of Around the League.

Winfield visited with the Redskins contingent on March 27 and left without a deal in place. Washington re-signed DeAngelo Hall on April 1, but Winfield is still a target. The Vikings also remain interested in bringing him back after releasing the 35 year old earlier in free agency.

Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman are locked in at the top of the Seahawks corner depth chart. Winfield would bring depth and a solid option at nickel.

Seahawks looking for backup quarterbacks

Matt Leinart and Brady Quinn will workout for Seattle in its backup quarterback search this week. Seneca Wallace and Tyler Thigpen will be involved as well.

After Russell Wilson, Josh Portis is the only other passer on the roster. The Seahawks need a reliable backup in the wake of the Matt Flynn trade.

Rob Gronkowski might need another surgery

The Patriots star tight end is reportedly dealing with an infection from his second surgery on his left forearm. Doctors need to replace the current plate he has in his arm, but if more infected tissue is found, the procedure can’t be done. That would require another surgery, which would put Week 1 in jeopardy.

Gronkowski is still talking with his camp to decide on a plan going forward. No surgeries are scheduled yet.

Darelle Revis needs to be in workouts for roster bonus

In order to earn his $3 million bonus, the Jets are requiring Revis to be in attendance for the start of voluntary workouts. New York begins that program on April 15.

Revis may not feel like it’s a voluntary situation anymore. He’s been the center of trade talks in recent months, but the Jets haven’t found the right suitor for his services yet. Surely $3 million is all the incentive Revis needs to show up.
