Devin Hester accepts Bears special teams role

Devin Hester won’t be arguing about his lack of receptions this season. He is finally accepting his role with the Bears as a return man.

USA TODAY Sports

The Bears have finally won the battle of convincing Devin Hester he is strictly a kick returner. Hester said he is fine with solely serving as a return specialist in 2013, according to Adam L. Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Marc Trestman recently said he would like to see Hester focus on returning to form as the league’s best kick returner. He has no intention of developing Hester as a wide receiver in his new offense with the Bears.

Last year, Hester complained about the amount of targets he saw in Chicago’s offense. He was unhappy with his role and wanted the ball in his hands more often. He finished the year with 23 receptions for 242 yards and one touchdown.

Hester didn’t score a single return touchdown in 2012, though. Maybe that led him to ultimately accept his role with Bears. He is ready to embrace his kick returning nature and forget about becoming a star receiver some day. Chicago fans should be pleased with his new outlook.
