NFL rumors: Giants to work out Tim Hightower again

Big Blue is looking to kick the tires on a veteran who is trying to make a comeback from serious knee issues.

The New York Giants are having free agent running back Tim Hightower in for a visit on Wednesday, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.

The veteran back was supposed to work out with in early April with the Giants, but it had to be rescheduled.

Hightower hasn't played in an NFL game since October of 2011 when he tore his ACL as a member of the Washington Redskins. Hightower came back last season but was cut before having another surgery to fix a meniscus issue.

New York already has a starter in place with second-year running back David Wilson ready to take control of the job, but Hightower could potentially be a nice fit as a third back behind Wilson and Andre Brown.

Hightower has bounced around the league a little bit since coming into the NFL in 2008 as a fifth-round draft pick. Hightower spent the first three seasons of his career with the Arizona Cardinals, highlighted by Super Bowl XLIII when he was the starting running back.

His best season was in 2010, when he rushed for 736 yards and five touchdowns.
