NFL Draft 2013: Bills excited by EJ Manuel’s ability to play in poor weather

Buffalo believes it has a quarterback who can play through any condition, something important in Western New York.

The Buffalo Bills drafted Florida State Seminoles quarterback E.J. Manuel with the 16th overall pick in the NFL Draft this season, believing that he is the franchise signal-caller they've been looking for since Jim Kelly retired.

One of the reasons Buffalo is convinced it made the right decision is Manuel’s perceived ability to play in cold weather, according to NBC’s Pro Football Talk.

Of course, no team in the league has worse weather to deal with in December than the Bills, save perhaps the Green Bay Packers.

During Manuel’s workout at Florida State in Tallahassee, Manuel was dealing with heavy winds and thunderstorms. The prospect came out and threw the ball well in the elements, making head coach Doug Marrone believe they had their man.

Many draft pundits thought it was a sure thing the Bills would select Marrone's old quarterback, Ryan Nassib, but Buffalo shocked most everyone and selected Manuel instead, who will compete to start immediately.

Manuel is a big proponent of Marrone’s offense, which relies heavily on having multiple checks depending on what the defense is showing at the line of scrimmage.

With playmakers around him such as running backs C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson and receiver Stevie Johnson, it will be interesting to see how Buffalo fares offensively in 2013.
