Dolphins work out offensive tackles on Wednesday

Miami needs to find someone who can block the left side to keep their franchise quarterback out of harm’s way.

Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE

The Miami Dolphins are desperate for a left tackle and will be working out a pair of them on Wednesday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Miami is bringing in both Eric Winston and Winston Justice for a look, hoping one impresses enough that the team feels comfortable in signing them.

Winston was released by the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in the offseason after only one season with the team. Winston previously played for the Houston Texans, where he was one of the premier tackles in the league before being released prior to the 2012 campaign.

Justice has played for both the Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts as a marginal tackle in his time. Justice has started 43 games in his career, spanning eight seasons.

The Dolphins made several moves in the offseason as perhaps the busiest team since the Super Bowl. Miami went out and signed wide receiver Mike Wallace, linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and cornerback Brent Grimes in free agency. However, the team lacks a solid option to protect second-year franchise quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Jonathan Martin is currently listed as the starter at left tackle, but the former second-round pick has only played right tackle at the pro level so far.

The Dolphins almost landed their left tackle last week when they negotiated with the Kansas City Chiefs in the hopes of landing Branden Albert. The deal fell through because the sides couldn't agree on draft pick compensation, keeping Albert in Kansas City on the franchise tag.
