NFL Draft 2013: Lions unconcerned about Larry Warford’s weight

Detroit coach Jim Schwartz says he’s not worried about Warford’s weight problems in the past.

The Detroit Lions are not concerning themselves with the weight of their recent third-round pick, Kentucky Wildcats guard Larry Warford, according to mlive.com.

Warford was on of the biggest prospects entering the draft - literally - at 330 pounds. Incredibly, Warford has actually shed 20 pounds to get down to that weight, but still has some ways to go.

Despite having a problem keeping his weight in check throughout his collegiate career, Lions head coach Jim Schwartz isn’t worried about the perceived issue, per the article:

“For the most part, you look across our team, this is a hard-working team. I think our conditioning program is really good that way,” Schwartz said. “We got very comfortable with his personality at the Senior Bowl, his work ethic, and we don’t anticipate that being a problem.”

Detroit has ex-NFL guard LeCharles Bentley to help Warford figure out how to stay at the right weight, giving the Lions some peace of mind.

Detroit is hoping Warford can win a starting job right off the bat, fortifying the inside of the offensive line to help newly-acquired running back Reggie Bush. Warford was thought of as one of the best run-blocking guards coming out of the draft, while having adequate pass-blocking ability.

Warford was ranked third among guards in SB Nation’s pre-draft player rankings.
