David Stewart injury: Titans OT could miss start of OTAs

Tennessee will likely start their offseason training without a veteran starter. How soon until David Stewart can return?

Frederick Breedon

David Stewart broke his leg in a game against the Houston Texans six months ago and had hopes that he would be ready to return for the start of Titans' OTAs this month, but it appears that the veteran tackle will not be ready in time and could miss the entire event. Could Tennessee be without its starting right tackle for a significant amount of the summer?

Stewart, a fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State in 2005, has started 104 games at right tackle for the Titans in his career. One of the most consistent tackles in the NFL since debuting in 2006, Stewart missed four games last year due to his leg injury and told reporters that he “probably won’t be on field for start of OTAs in May.”

While right tackles do not get the same exposure and recognition as left tackles, Stewart was a second-team All-Pro selection by the Associated Press in 2008, and second-team All-Pro selection by Pro Football Focus in 2009. The Titans' offensive line has had issues over previous seasons, and losing Stewart could be too big of a blow to Jake Locker, Chris Johnson and the rest of the offense.
