NFL news: Tyrann Mathieu ready to prove himself, Michael Vick leading for Eagles

With OTAs starting, players around the league are looking to answer some big questions for the 2013 season.

USA TODAY Sports

With teams across the NFL holding rookie mini-camps, there's plenty of news on some of the more interesting prospects from the 2013 NFL draft. Tyrann Mathieu is in camp for the Arizona Cardinals, and he is looking to ditch the Honey Badger nickname and prove that he was worth the risk the Cardinals took with their third-round pick. Revenge of the Birds has a full report of Mathieu's comments to the media from the week, including his thoughts on the importance of Patrick Peterson to his development and how he plans to prove himself.

In non-rookie news, the New York Giants signed free-agent linebacker Aaron Curry, reports ESPN. Curry has never quite lived up to his position as the fourth-overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft, but with a one-year deal, the Giants thought he was worth trying out. Giants blog Big Blue View has some thoughts, noting that the Giants "need all the help they can get" at linebacker.

Whatever quarterback competition develops for the Philadelphia Eagles, Michael Vick appears to have the early lead. He'll be taking the majority of the first-team snaps, reports Philly.com. Eagles blog Bleeding Green Nation has some speculation on how a quarterback competition might play out, including fourth-round draft selection Matt Barkley.

Another battle likely to develop in camp is between Marc Mariani and Darius Reynaud, wide receivers for the Tennessee Titans. Mariani is coming back from a nasty leg injury and knows he has to impress in camp, he told the AP. Reynaud signed a one-year deal with the Titans in March for what will be his second year with the team. His primary role in 2012 was returning punts, with 410 yards on 31 returns, including a long of 81 yards and two touchdowns.
