NFL free agent tracker: Max Starks visits Cardinals

Arizona is hosting the former Steelers left tackle on Tuesday, and could badly use his services on their offensive line.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Free agent offensive tackle Max Starks is in the desert visiting with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson. Starks has also reportedly taken a physical with the team, so an announcement regarding a contract could come soon.

Starks came into the NFL in 2004 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and started 96 games at tackle until becoming a free agent earlier this offseason. The 31-year-old would fill a definite need for the Cardinals, who had the worst offensive line in the NFL in 2012. They gave up an astounding 58 sacks, the worst total in the league, and 97 total quarterback hits, the fourth-highest total in the league.

The Cardinals acquired veteran quarterback Carson Palmer earlier in the offseason, and need to make an investment in the offensive line to make sure Palmer can stay upright this year. Starks would be a good step in that direction.
