Randall Cobb ready for larger role in Packers offense

Randall Cobb enjoyed a breakout 2012 season, and he could be in store for even bigger things in Green Bay’s offense.

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb is ready for a bigger role in the team's offense entering his third year. With Greg Jennings departing in free agency and Donald Driver retiring, Cobb is now an unquestioned starter in Green Bay.

Cobb enjoyed a breakout season in 2012, with 80 receptions, 2,342 all-purpose yards and 9 touchdowns. The dynamic playmaker is still just 22, and he’s ready to shoulder a bigger load:

“I think definitely with Donald retiring and Greg leaving, it’s definitely going to be a lot more weight on me, James and Jordy’s shoulders,” Cobb said. “But we’re taking on the challenge head-on. We’ve been really excited to get back and work. We’ve got some young guys, some drafted guys that’s coming in. We’re excited to get back to work and see how it’s going to turn out this year.”

Coach Mike McCarthy is considering taking Cobb out of special teams, which would reduce his all-purpose yards, but there’s no doubt he’s one of the most electric players in the league, and the sky is the limit on his potential. Cobb will be one of the first receivers off the board in many fantasy leagues this fall.
