Charles Woodson rumors: Broncos reportedly remain favorites for DB

The ex-Green Bay defensive back was in Denver on Wednesday to meet with the Broncos.

Benny Sieu-US PRESSWIRE

Veteran defensive back Charles Woodson met with Broncos officials Wednesday and, while he didn't agree to a deal with the team during his visit, Denver reportedly is the favorite to land him, according to the Denver Post. He is also receiving interest from the Oakland Raiders and Carolina Panthers, but unlike those two, the Broncos have a realistic shot at winning the Super Bowl, and that may prove the difference.

The Raiders have an offer on the table for Woodson, according to his agent. The 15-year veteran has plenty of history with that franchise -- it’s where he spent the first eight years of his career. He then moved on to Green Bay, where he set a career high in interceptions with nine in 2009 and won a Super Bowl title in 2011. Woodson has played both corner and several safety positions in recent years, so he could help his new team in multiple areas.

The Broncos have around $7 million in salary cap room, according to The Denver Post. Woodson was due to earn $9 million in 2013 before being released by Green Bay.
