Longtime Cowboys offensive tackle Doug Free has agreed to take a pay cut to stay with in Dallas.

Free's contract has been decreased to $3.5 million in 2013, per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. He signed a two-year, $7 million contract on Thursday, which will allow him to be an unrestricted free agent following the 2014 season. He originally had four years left on his contract and was due an average of $8 million a year.
Free may still count this as a win, considering his struggles in 2012. He was one of the lowest-rated offensive tackles, according to Pro Football Focus, giving up six sacks, four hits and 41 hurries from the right side.
Free was a fourth-round pick out of Northern Illinois in 2007 by the Cowboys and has played in every game over the last four seasons. He will likely compete with Jermey Parnell for the starting right tackle job this preseason, and his renegotiated contract may open the door for the Cowboys to sign another free agent, possibly offensive tackle Eric Winston.
