The New York Jets brought in David Garrard during the offseason to add some extra competition to the battle for the starting quarterback position, and while that didn't work out for either party, Garrard could remain a part of the organization. The Jets have given Garrard the opportunity to serve as a coaching intern during training camp.
Jets offer David Garrard coaching internship
Garrard is hanging up his cleats, but he may remain involved with the Jets in a coaching capacity.

“The Jets offered me the chance to come back if I want to take a shot at that coaching thing with an internship in training camp,” Garrard told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I told them I’d talk with my wife about it, so I could still work with those guys. It’s definitely something I’m considering.”
Garrard recently decided to retire because of a nagging left knee injury. The surgically-repaired knee kept swelling after practice, and Garrard eventually concluded that he couldn't realistically compete for the Jets' starting quarterback job while hampered in such a manner.
Garrard did not play in 2011 or 2012, but spent the five years prior starting for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He made 76 starts over the course of his career and earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2009.
