Bryant McKinnie rumors: Cowboys interested in tackle, according to report

The market for Bryant McKinnie’s services continues to increase.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Bryant McKinnie lost his starting job at left tackle with the Ravens last year, but after a solid performance in the playoffs he is having no trouble drawing interest from several NFL teams. That list grew a little bit longer today with news that the Dallas Cowboys are also interested in the free agent tackle for a spot on their roster, according to the Baltimore Sun's Aaron Wilson.

Dallas currently has Tyron Smith, the ninth overall pick in the 2011 draft, entrenched at left tackle but upgrading the offensive line has been a priority over the offseason. The Cowboys traded back in the first round of the draft last Thursday and selected center Travis Frederick with the 31st overall pick. But Dallas was one of the worst running teams in the league last season, finishing 31st in total rushing yards and 30th in yards per carry.

McKinnie could possibly be an upgrade at right tackle and improve the running game.

The seventh overall pick in 2002 by Minnesota, McKinnie spent nine seasons with the Vikings and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2009. He signed with the Ravens in 2011, starting at left tackle for all 16 games of that season, but lost his job to Michael Oher in 2012 before coming in during the playoffs and helping Baltimore win the Super Bowl for the second time in franchise history.

He has already met with the Dolphins and Chargers this week and could find himself a new home very soon. Whether or not that's the right side of the Cowboys' offensive line has yet to be seen, but it appears they are throwing their hat in the ring.
