Mike Goodson doesn’t practice at Jets OTAs

Goodson didn’t participate in offseason workouts with the New York Jets Monday, days after the running back was arrested for alleged illegal drug and weapons possession. His status with the team going forward is uncertain.

Mike Goodson showed up at the New York Jets practice facility Monday, but did not participate in the start of voluntary organized team activities as the organization tries to find out the story behind his arrest Friday.

Goodson, who was arrested on multiple weapons and drug charges for alleged illegal possession of a handgun and marijuana, was expected by many to be released. The Jets haven’t taken that step, although the 25-year-old running back isn’t participating in offseason workouts with the squad. Jets owner Woody Johnson said Monday that the team plans on getting the facts of the case from the running back, per Kimberley A. Martin of the New York Daily News. But he wouldn’t give much of a committment about how the team will treat the fourth-year veteran going forward:

In response to further questions about Goodson, Johnson said the Jets are all about “truth, justice and the American way.”

Before his arrest, the New Jersey native was expected to compete for snaps alongside Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, and Joe McKnight in a running game that wasn't particularly effective last year. In three NFL seasons, he's scored three touchdowns on 160 carries, averaging 4.5 yards per run between the Oakland Raiders and Carolina Panthers.
