DeVier Posey injury: Texans WR ‘ahead of schedule’

DeVier Posey tore his Achilles’ tendon in the playoffs, but is ahead of schedule and may not be out as long as initially expected.

USA TODAY Sports

When DeVier Posey tore his Achilles' tendon in Houston's playoff loss to New England, it put his 2013 season in doubt. Posey's recovery, however, is reportedly ahead of schedule, according to Tania Ganguli of the Houston Chronicle.

Posey was initially expected to begin the season on the physically unable to perform list, with the possibility that he could be activated near midseason. Now, Texans head coach Gary Kubiak the team will have to wait until training camp to see if Posey will land on the PUP list or be ready earlier in the season. Posey is apparently making considerable progress as in late March, Kubiak said Posey would likely be out until the middle of the 2013 season.

While Posey may be ahead of schedule, it’s still hard to predict what he will be able to do this season. An Achilles’ tendon injury can take up to a year to fully heal and Kubiak admitted he isn’t sure what to expect from Posey.

“I don’t really know,” Kubiak said, via HoustonTexans.com. “I know his goal is to make it hard on us to put him on PUP once camp starts, so that’s a good thing. He’s working hard.”

Posey, a third-round pick in 2012, caught six passes for 87 yards last season. He began to play a bigger role late in the season and was expected to compete for a starting job next season before suffering the injury.
