Jets could decide between Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith before training camp

Will the Jets decide their starting QB before training camp even starts?

USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets' quarterback battle could be over before it really begins. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg suggested to the New York Daily News that the team could decide their starting quarterback after OTA sessions concluded.

The Jets currently have four quarterbacks on the roster -- incumbent Mark Sanchez, rookie Geno Smith, Greg McElroy and Matt Simms. The battle is expected to come down between Sanchez and Smith, and Mornhinweg believes that the OTA period will be a critical part of the evaluation process (via the Daily News):

“That’s all part of the process. Absolutely. Everything we do is important. Our meetings are important... the way we go about our meetings, the way we go about our preparation right now with a new system. These are very important things. Every pass we throw out there in OTAs and these practices are important.”

The Jets open training camp in late July. Even if they decide on a QB before then, this is still the Jets we’re talking about, so don’t expect this situation to be resolved any time soon.
