Jared Odrick is playing DT at Dolphins OTAs

Better suited for a 3-4 defense, Odrick is being tried at a new position to see if he can make an impact there.

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

It appears that Jared Odrick will spend some time at defensive tackle next season for the Miami Dolphins. The pass rusher took snaps at the new position during OTAs on Tuesday, according to Dolphins.com.

The Phinsider: No Super Bowl for Miami

Odrick's role has been in question since the Dolphins drafted defensive end Dion Jordan with the No. 3 pick. Furthermore, Miami has a 4-3 defense this year, which is less suited for Odrick's skill set.

After playing sparingly as a rookie in 2010, Odrick carved out a role on the Dolphins. He’s recorded 11 sacks over the last two seasons. His name had been floated in trade rumors once the Dolphins switched their base defense.

While at Penn State, Odrick spent some time at defensive tackle, so the position is not completely foreign to him. Head coach Joe Philbin has stressed during OTAs that he is using the time to see if his players are able to play multiple positions.
