Mikel Leshoure injury: Lions RB held out of OTAs

Lions running back Mikel Leshoure has been held out of team practices because he’s “battling some stuff.”

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

Lions running back Mikel Leshoure has been held out of the team's organized team activities, according to The Detroit News' Chris McCosky.

Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said Leshoure has been going through some individual drills, but not any team drills at the time.

“He’s battling some stuff,” Schwartz said. “He can do some individual stuff but he’s not ready to do any team work.”

Leshoure was a second-round pick out of Illinois in 2011 but missed his entire rookie season with an Achilles injury in early August. In his second year, he led the Lions rushing attack with 215 carries for 798 yards and nine touchdowns. The Lions' 23rd-ranked rushing attack didn't help the second-ranked passing game, but with the offseason addition of Reggie Bush this offseason that may change.

Leshoure and Bush will likely be the two main ball carriers out of the Lions' backfield, but Bush is likely to receive the lion's share of the touches after revitalizing his career with the Dolphins over the past two seasons. With a better run game, the Lions' offense could continue to be one of the best in the league.
