Ramses Barden signs with Giants, according to report

It might not be the New York receiver that fans are hoping for, but the Giants did re-sign a player on Thursday. Could Barden see a bigger role next season?

Jeremy Brevard-US PRESSWIRE

The Giants have so far been without Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks at their voluntary workouts, but at least one Giants receiver is now back in the fold: New York has reportedly re-signed fifth-year wide receiver Ramses Barden to a new contract.

Barden, a third-round pick out of Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo in 2009, had a career-high 220 yards on 14 catches last season. After playing only sparingly during his first three seasons and never having topped 100 yards in any one season, Barden posted a breakout game against the Carolina Panthers in Week 3 when he recorded 9 catches for 138 yards in a 36-7 Giants victory.

Fantasy owners hoping to catch lightning in a bottle would be disappointed, however, as Barden had just four catches total the rest of the season.

There could be an opportunity for Barden or another New York receiver to make some noise in the spring with both Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks absent so far from OTAs. Cruz is a restricted free agent hoping to sign a long-term deal, while head coach Tom Coughlin said he was unsure of why Nicks wasn’t at voluntary workouts.

Either way, Barden is now back with the team and has his chance to turn heads again with the possibility of extra reps.
