Trent Richardson injury: Browns RB held out of OTAs with pulled muscle

The team is being cautious with their star player on offense. Will he be ready in time for training camp?

Eric P. Mull-US PRESSWIRE

Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson is being held out of OTAs by the team as a precaution following a pulled shin muscle, according to CBS Cleveland. Richardson managed to stay relatively healthy during his rookie season, starting all but one game in 2012 and rushing for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Browns.

Head coach Rob Chudzinski said he could also miss extended time (via CBS Cleveland):

“It’s precautionary, we’re holding [Richardson] out,” Chudzinski said. “We’ve got minicamp in a week and a half. He may miss that. I’m not sure we’ll just play it day by day.”

Tight end Jordan Cameron was also held out of OTAs this week. Cameron is dealing with a groin injury. The third-year tight end had 20 catches for 226 yards with Cleveland last season.

Richardson is sure to be the focal point of the Browns offense once again as the team still sorts through a quarterback competition. Chudzinski previously ran the offense for the Carolina Panthers, whose stable of running backs established the run to set up the pass, so the Browns will likely take every precaution necessary to keep Richardson healthy. That could keep him off the practice field until training camp begins.
