Scott Chandler injury: Bills TE expects to be ready for training camp

Less than half a year after tearing his ACL, Bills tight end Scott Chandler is running routes and catching passes.

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

Bills tight end Scott Chandler suffered an ACL tear in Week 16 of the 2012 season and has recovered well enough that he was on the practice field after the team's OTAs on Thursday running routes and catching passes from quarterbacks. He is doing so well that he's expected to be ready to get back on the field at the start of training camp, according to Chris Brown on the team's official site.

Chandler tied for second on the team in receptions and yards in 2012 with 43 catches for 571 yards, behind only Stevie Johnson. He tied with Johnson for most receiving touchdowns with six in 2012, though.

Chandler's progress is a good sign for the Bills, who will be led by a new quarterback in 2013. Whether it's Kevin Kolb or rookie E.J. Manuel, the Bills 2013 quarterback will be looking for his safety valve, which often comes in the form of a tight end.

Chandler was a fourth-round pick out of Iowa in 2007 by the San Diego Chargers. He has spent time with the Cowboys and Giants before eventually landing in Buffalo, where he has logged the majority of his playing time. In his career, he has caught 82 passes for 968 yards and 12 touchdowns. All but one reception for eight yards has come when Chandler was wearing a Bills uniform.
