Falcons in talks with Richard Seymour, per report

The Falcons are still looking for help on the defensive line, an area that’s been a concern in recent years. Is Richard Seymour coming to help?

Ed Szczepanski-US PRESSWIRE

The Atlanta Falcons are currently in talks with defensive lineman Richard Seymour, according to John Manasso of FOX Sports South. Still looking to make another move before the season begins, speculation continues to points towards the Falcons adding help to the defensive line.

Seymour has been training in metro Atlanta this offseason, and he’s also a former Georgia Bulldog. Considering he wants to play for a contender, staying put where he is now would be a smart choice for the 33-year-old veteran.

Atlanta finished No. 28 in 2012 with 29 total sacks. The pass rush is not a strong suit for last year’s NFC South champion. Seymour might not be the dominant defender he once was, but he could provide a situational player to boost pressure up the middle.

The Falcons are tight on cap space for the time being. After June 1, all but $1.55 million of Tyson Clabo's contract comes of the books. Atlanta will have $4.5 million to work with once that transpires.
