NFL news roundup: Falcons talking to Richard Seymour, Robert Griffin III throwing in practice

Atlanta is looking for more help on the defensive line. RG3 is already on the field. What else is happening around the NFL?

Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

The Atlanta Falcons are still looking to upgrade their defensive front, and Richard Seymour might be the next addition the team makes in this process. Atlanta is reportedly in talks with the 33-year-old veteran.

Rushing the passer was not an easy task for the Falcons last season. The finished towards the bottom of the league in sacks, and while the addition of Osi Umenyiora and a few rookies may help, another experienced player in the middle of the line would make defensive coordinator Mike Nolan feel a little more confident about his squad.

Seymour is working out in Atlanta this offseason. He also attended college at the University of Georgia. His ties to the area would seem to create an easy transition to a new team.

What else happened around the league on Thursday?

RG3 throws at OTAs

Some grainy cell phones pictures and videos proved to the public that RG3 is out on the field with the Redskins. He's dropping back and planting on throws. He seems to be making good progress so far, but there is still a lot of work to do. He reportedly wants to be back in regular action for training camp.

Also out of Washington, wide receiver Pierre Garcon is currently recovering from labrum surgery earlier in the offseason. He appears to be healthy now, but it's worth noting since he missed a significant amount of time last season with another injury.

Trent Richardson pulls muscle

The Browns are keeping their star running back out of OTAs as he recovers from a pulled shin muscle. This is a precautionary measure, so there doesn't appear to be anything serious to worry about with Richardson. He only missed one game during his rookie season in 2012.

James Casey has knee surgery

The Eagles tight end underwent arthroscopic surgery to clean out loose cartilage in his right knee. He is expected to be ready for training camp. Casey is a versatile player who has promising potential in Chip Kelly's new offense. Philadelphia will hope to get him involved as soon as possible once he heals.

Robert Meachem up for sale?

Tom Krasovic of the U-T San Diego thinks Meachem could be shopped if he shows well during preseason play. His high cap number will probably deter any suitors. How many teams are looking for an underperforming wideout worth nearly $7 million?
