Brandon Meriweather injury: Redskins’ safety will be ‘fine’ for training camp, says Mike Shanahan

Mike Shanahan said Brandon Meriweather will be ready in time for training camp.

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan told the Washington Post he expects safety Brandon Meriweather to be ready for training camp. Meriweather is working his way back from the torn ACL he suffered in Week 11 last season.

“I think Brandon will be fine once we get to camp. ... He did a good job in his drill work,” Shanahan said after the team’s practice on Thursday. “The one thing you don’t want to do when somebody hurts his knee is get him going too quickly - just let it heal and strengthen the muscles around the knee. Right now he looks pretty good.”

Meriweather is less sure about his chances, telling the Post, “I never really had a torn ACL so I don’t know what the timetable is like. If you ask me, I’ll tell you I can go today. If you ask me if there’s any doubt, I’ll say no. But if you ask the doctor and the trainer, they may say yes. So to be honest, I really don’t know.” Meriweather has spent the team’s OTA sessions going through rehabilitation drills.

Meriweather’s 2012 season was a complete wash due to injuries. He missed the first nine games of the season due to a knee injury. He returned in Week 11, but played in one game before tearing his ACL.
