Seahawks address PED suspensions in team meeting

Seattle has had a NFL-high five players suspended for PED violations since 2010 and safety Kam Chancellor said the players met to address the issue.

The Seattle Seahawks have a deep roster, but that depth has been challenged in recent seasons by performance enhancing drug suspensions. The Seahawks have had five players suspended for PED violations since 2010, the most of any NFL team. Now, the veterans on the roster are working to help solve the issue.

Safety Kam Chancellor said players recently held a team meeting where the veterans on the roster emphasized the need to stop making the same mistakes.

“We have to grow up and move past that,” Chancellor said during an appearance on SiriusXM radio. “That’s pretty much the message right now, growing up and not making the same mistakes over and over.”

The team meeting came not long after defensive end Bruce Irvin was suspended four games for a violation of the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. Irvin was the sixth Seattle player to test positive for banned substances since 2010 with Richard Sherman's violation overturned after an appeal.

Whether the team meeting solves the recent issue remains to be seen. It’s unlikely players said anything the organization and the league haven’t said dozens of times. Hearing it from the leaders of the team, however, could have a different impact.

ESPN's Mike Sando has team-by-team list of PED suspensions since 2010. The Seahawks, along with the Denver Broncos and New York Giants are the only teams to have four or more players suspended.
