Mike Shanahan: Brian Orakpo ‘looks as good as ever’ for Redskins

Orakpo missed all but two games in 2012 after tearing his left pectoral muscle early in the season.

The Washington Redskins have some injury recoveries to keep a close eye on, but there isn't much worry in the building about pass rusher Brian Orakpo, according to Rich Tandler of RealRedskins.com, as the two-time Pro Bowl selection is said to be 100 percent after missing the majority of the 2012 season.

Orakpo, 26, tore his left pectoral muscle for the second time in less than nine months against the St. Louis Rams in Week 2 and missed the remainder of the 2012 season. On Thursday, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan talked about Orakpo's recovery and was optimistic:

“He’s had no setback at all. He’s been going full speed over the last four weeks. He looks as good as ever,” said Shanahan. “Right now, you can tell it’s completely healed and we’ll keep our fingers crossed that there’s no setback.”

A first-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Orakpo burst on to the scene as a rookie with 11 sacks and kept his production going with 17.5 sacks in the next two seasons. In his fourth season, he managed just one sack before injury.

With Orakpo out of the lineup, the Redskins finished the 2012 season in the bottom 10 in total sacks after finishing in the top 10 in the season prior. Washington's 2011 first-round pick, Ryan Kerrigan, led the team with 8.5 sacks, while no other player was able to notch five or more.
