Fred Davis ready to ‘prove himself again’ for Redskins

Fred Davis is playing for a long-term contract for the third year in a row. This time, he has to do it while recovering from an injury.

Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis feels that he needs to prove himself as he enters another one-year deal with the team, telling the Washington Times, "I feel like I've got to prove myself again. Everything I've done before doesn't matter."

Davis played in just 19 games the last two seasons. He was suspended four games in 2011 for a substance abuse violation and tore his Achilles tendon last October. The Redskins let Davis test the free-agent market, but he didn't get much interest, visiting with the Bills before signing a one-year, $2.5 million deal to stay in Washington.

Davis' recovery is on schedule, and he hopes to be ready in time for next month's minicamp. He has no problem cutting and believes he's at "90 percent", catching passes from Robert Griffin III last week. At 27 years old, he should be entering the prime of his career. "Luckily, I'm still kind of young, so I can bounce back and do the right thing. I still feel good and comfortable out there."
