Buccaneers DB Cody Grimm arrested for public intoxication

Tampa Bay can’t be happy with the latest news about one of its players.

Last weekend, Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Cody Grimm was arrested for public intoxication, according to the Washington Post.

Grimm, 26, was arrested outside a Hampton Inn at 5:30 a.m. after coming back to Virginia for a wedding. The son of NFL great Russ Grimm has had problems with this before, being arrested for the exact same charge on March 10. Grimm has a court date on July 9 to defend himself.

Tampa Bay’s head coach, Greg Schiano, had the following statement in the wake of the news, per the article:

“Our players know our expectations on and off the field and we take these matters very seriously. When we feel we have obtained all the necessary information, we will act accordingly.”

This isn't good news for Grimm, who is trying to hold on to a roster spot with a team that appears to be getting better. With the addition of Darrelle Revis this offseason via a trade with the New York Jets, Grimm's spot appears all the more tenuous.

As Bucs Nation points out, Grimm was a seventh-round pick in 2010 and the team has little reason to keep him at this point.

The Bucs could act swiftly and release Grimm, even though the charge is a misdemeanor and not necessarily a big deal. The Bucs forced Grimm to take a pay cut this season as well, and two misdemeanor public intoxication charges gives them little reason to hang on to him.

Grimm has started 12 games in his career for the Bucs.
