Brent Grimes injury: Dolphins CB says Achilles ‘feels fine’

The former Pro Bowl defensive back is trying to make a comeback with a new team. Should the Dolphins have anything to worry about with his injury?

Jamie Squire

Cornerback Brent Grimes has gone from Shippensburg University to being an undrafted free agent to fighting for a job with the Hamburg Sea Devils in NFL Europe to the Pro Bowl. Now he's just trying to go from missing almost the entire season with the Falcons to re-establishing himself as a top-end corner with the Miami Dolphins. To that end, Grimes says his Achilles "feels fine" and that there should be no mental hurdle to overcome, ESPN's James Walker reports.

Grimes was able to record just six tackles with the Falcons last season before the torn Achilles sidelined him for the remainder of the year. It was only two seasons prior that he had worked his way up to being a starting corner for Atlanta and made the Pro Bowl after recording 80 tackles, five interceptions and 23 pass deflections. He hit a bit of a lull in 2011, missing four games with injury and recording just one interception, but he was still able to sign a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Miami Dolphins on March 30.

Turning 30 in July, this could be Grimes’ last chance to earn a multi-year contract in the NFL, so mental hurdles would be the last thing he needs at the moment, just as long as he can jump over the physical ones.
