Mikel Leshoure, Ryan Broyles among injured Lions players at OTAs

Broyles is trying to return from a torn ACL, while Leshoure is suffering from a hamstring injury. What can be expected of each next season?

USA TODAY Sports

Ryan Broyles has already had to fight back from a torn ACL once in his career and he's on the road to recovery once again. He's just not participating in the Lions OTAs this week, and neither is teammate Mikel Leshoure.

Broyles previously tore his ACL during a record-setting career at Oklahoma and that injury hurt his draft stock enough to drop him to the second round, where he was selected by Detroit last year. Some fans were fearful that Broyles would be injury prone, but he managed to get onto the field as a rookie and he had a breakout game against the Texans when he recorded six catches for 126 yards.

The next week against Indianapolis, Broyles tore his ACL again.

Teammate Leshoure has a less serious injury, but a sore hamstring has now held the running back out of multiple OTA sessions, including Wednesday's. The third-year running back missed all of 2011 with a torn Achilles tendon, and returned last season to put up 798 yards in 14 games. Leshoure will contend for carries against the likes of Reggie Bush, Joique Bell, and possibly Jahvid Best, but could be in line for a big season if he can stay healthy.

Meanwhile, Broyles could still be in contention for a starting spot opposite of Calvin Johnson, but still has some significant hurdles to overcome in the rehab process and only time will be able to tell if he can come back even stronger from this ACL injury than he did the last one.
