If this is it for Tebow, it's an abrupt end for a player who became a national sensation while leading the Denver Broncos on a memorable run to the playoffs in 2011 that included a six-game winning streak. He ended up making 11 starts that season but struggled throwing the football, completing just 46.5 percent of his passes.
The Jets cut him loose in April after one season in New York, and he cleared waivers without being claimed by another team. To hear one scout from an NFC team tell it, the attention that follows him everywhere is costing him employment opportunities. The drawbacks associated with signing Tebow appear to outweigh the benefits in the minds of some:
“He’s not a quarterback. When you look at his run two years ago, when you watch the tape and break it down, he wasn’t really doing anything that impressive. He’s a tough guy, a great leader, a great person. But he isn’t a good enough quarterback to have all the distractions that come with him.”
During his brief stay with the Jets, Tebow rarely received playing time under center and attempted a total of just eight passes.
