Philip Rivers can be a Pro Bowl QB, says Chargers OC Ken Whisenhunt

Despite Rivers’ recent struggles, Whisenhunt believes the veteran quarterback can still be one of the NFL’s best.

USA TODAY Sports

Philip Rivers' production slipped in recent seasons, but he has been a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback in the past, and new San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt believes he can be again, according to NFL.com. Whisenhunt's task this offseason is to do what he can to help Rivers get back to that level.

“I think he can be a Pro Bowl quarterback,” Whisenhunt said. “I think he can play at that level again. That’s certainly something I see from him, and hopefully we’ll be able to achieve that this year.”

Rivers has thrown a total of 35 interceptions over the past two seasons; he threw for 3,606 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2012, which were his lowest totals in those respective categories since 2007. The team suffered along with him -- the Chargers finished 31st in total offense, won only seven games and missed the playoffs for the third straight year.
