Giants GM compares Ryan Nassib to Andy Dalton

Ryan Nassib said he always compared himself to Eli Manning, but Giants GM Jerry Reese said a different quarterback came to mind when watching Nassib.

The New York Giants surprised many when they traded up in the fourth round of the NFL Draft and selected Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib. While Nassib isn't likely to start for New York anytime soon, Giants general manager Jerry Reese compared him to a quarterback who played right away.

"When I first watched him he reminded me of the quarterback at Cincinnati (Andy Dalton) that played at TCU," Reese said, via ESPN.com. "He reminded me of Dalton in some ways when I first saw him, but our scouts liked him."

Reese went on to praise Nassib’s arm strength and accuracy, while also saying the quarterback had an “it” factor about him. Reese said he thought Nassib would be selected in the second round of the draft and he was at the top of the Giants’ board when they traded up in the fourth round to select him.

Dalton may not be the flashiest starting quarterback in the NFL, but if Nassib turns out to be a similar player, New York will have gotten a steal and a valuable insurance plan in case Eli Manning suffers an injury. Like Dalton, some projected Nassib to go in the first round. Dalton ended up going in the early second round of the 2011 NFL Draft while Nassib slid even further.
