Dion Jordan, Kyle Long among graduating seniors to miss first NFL OTAs

Several first-round picks will be late reporting to their team’s OTA program, as they have to wait for graduation.

USA TODAY Sports

Several high-profile rookies will arrive late for OTAs, as the NFL prohibits rookies from beginning workouts with their new teams until their class graduates. The biggest players that will be late to minicamp are Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan, Chicago Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long, Atlanta Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant and Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz.

While the rule may be annoying for NFL teams eager to get to work, it's far from a major setback for these players' development. For example, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck missed the beginning of OTAs due to the rule last year. So long as the players get signed and into training camp on time, there isn't much of an issue here. If this was really a major problem for the teams, the NFL would have changed the rule by now.

NFL OTA workouts begin on May 13 for some teams, with every team beginning by May 29 at the latest. You can check here to see when your favorite team will get their program underway.
