Eagles work out Felix Jones

Jones hasn’t drawn much free-agent interest, but he did work out with the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday.

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

Former Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Once one of the most promising young running backs in the NFL, Jones has drawn very little interest on the free-agent market. He worked out for the Cincinnati Bengals earlier this offseason, but has yet to land a contract offer. Jones averaged a career-low 3.6 yards per attempt last season, but is still just 25-years-old. Known for his elite speed, Jones could fit with the Eagles as a backup running back and return man.

LeSean McCoy is healthy and once again atop the Eagles' depth chart with Bryce Brown proving last season he was more than an adequate backup. After trading Dion Lewis to Cleveland, the Eagles have an opening for the No. 3 spot. Currently, Chris Polk is expected to compete with Miguel Maysonet and Matthew Tucker for the job, but Jones could join that competition as well.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hasn’t ruled out re-signing Jones, but that seems like a long shot at this point.
