Rob Gronkowski injury: Patriots TE may need another surgery

New England might be without its star tight end for a while if another procedure is needed.

Chris McGrath

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski's forearm injury refuses to go away.

Gronk has an infection in his arm that has been lingering for months and now with a full round of antibiotics administered, the moment of truth has arrived, according to the Boston Herald.

Per a source in the story, Gronkowski needs the supportive plate in his left forearm removed and exchaged to avoid further complications. If this is the case, Gronkowski is looking at a recovery period just shy of three months.

If the surgery happens immediately, Gronkowski would have a chance to come back by Week 1, although it would be unlikely. It would be his fourth surgery on the arm.

Gronkowski originally broke his forearm on an extra point attempt last November against the Indianapolis Colts in a blowout before coming back in the AFC Divisional playoffs versus the Houston Texans.

In the first quarter of that contest, Gronkowski re-broke the arm.
