Titans release Jamie Harper, according to report

The third-year running back was unable to make much of an impact with Tennessee. Does he have a future in the NFL?

Douglas Jones-US PRESSWIRE

With the Titans struggling to find a rhythm on offense over the last couple of seasons, it certainly seems like there was an opportunity there for a running back like Jamie Harper to make his mark. A fourth-round pick in 2011 out of Clemson, Harper failed to make an impact as a rookie while starter Chris Johnson struggled, and then carried the ball just 19 times during the 2012 season.

The Titans released Harper on Wednesday, making him a free agent.

Johnson got nearly every carry for the Titans in 2012, while Harper had 19 attempts for 30 yards and three touchdowns. He matched his career high when he ran for 19 yards on six carries against the Packers in Week 16. The Titans finished 21st in rushing and 23rd in scoring last season en route to a 6-10 finish.

In a corresponding move, the team signed former Jaguars running back Jalen Parmele. Selected by the Dolphins in the sixth-round of the 2008 draft out of Toledo, Parmele carried the ball 40 times for Jacksonville last season for 143 yards in eleven games. He had just seven carries over his first four seasons in the league.

For now, Harper will take his place in the free agent pool.
